Diagnosing Conflict caused by the BP rig explosion of spring 2010 in the Gulf of Mexico and analyzing it through the Triangle of Satisfaction was a challenging endeavor. Looking through the eyes of BP, the State of Louisiana and the US Federal government I first identified the motivating factors from each perspective. British Petroleum BP is a powerful mega-organization, with a business model that reports â€Å"their belief of achieving sustainable success as a group, is to act in the long term-term interest of our shareholders, our partners and society†. Sailing with Vespucci If I were to ride aboard the ship in the age of exploration, I would choose Amerigo Vespucci. Amerigo was born in Florence, Italy on March 9, 1951. He was one of the first Europeans to believe that the land Columbus had discovered was not the Indies, but rather an entirely new continent. Because of this, the new land would be called the Americas, a feminized version of Amerigo. Amerigo was born in Florence, Italy, his parents, Ser Nastagio and Lisabetta Mini, were friends of the Medici, a very wealthy family that controlled Italy from the 1400s to 1737. When Amerigo was in his early 20s his uncle, who was the ambassador to France, sent him on a brief diplomatic mission to Paris. This trip probably sparked his fascination of travel. After that Amerigo held a number of different jobs that would teach him valuable lessons that would benefit later in his life. Baseball and basketball are also considered different in terms of the team uniforms. While this can be a similarity between both sports, it is also a difference because each sport has its own unique uniform to wear. Basketball players wear shorts and sleeveless shirts. They also wear basketball shoes or sneakers. The color of their uniform corresponds to the color of the team. Baseball players wear cleats, which are tennis shoes with bumps on the bottom to help grip the dirt on the field and the bases. Baseball players also wear pants that go down to their ankles and short sleeve shirts. They must also wear either a baseball cap or a helmet when playing. Like basketball, the color of the uniform matched the teams color. Comparing the uniforms of these two sports shows just how easy it is for a sport to have something in common, yet it still is so different for each sport as well. The final way in which sports fans compare baseball and basketball is by comparing the number of active players per team. This can be a big deciding factor in which sport a fan likes better because they may like to have a consistent number of players playing at one time, or they may like to see varying numbers of players playing the game at one time. In baseball, the number of active players per team is a total of 9 players. While there are usually more the 9 players on a baseball team, only 9 players are allowed to be on the field playing for the team at one time. In basketball, the number of active players per team at one time varies. There must be a minimum of 5 active players playing on the court at one time or the team must forfeit, but a team can also allow up to 12 active players on the court at any time. It is hard to imagine how two sports can be similar yet so different at the same time. To recap, baseball and basketball are both sports that are played as teams, but are quite different in terms of the location the game is played, how the teams score points, the team uniforms, and the number of active players per team. These are all great things that sports fans compare when deciding which sport they enjoy more. It is hard to believe that these few ways of comparing the two sports can have such a major impact on what fans think of the sports. Based on all of the factors that were compared, I would have to say that I would choose to watch baseball over basketball anytime. At some point in time, all teenagers are expected to leave home and venture out on their own. Separating from parents and gaining independence are two central tasks that teenagers must overcome in order to become adults. Teenagers usually learn how to make this transition through either home or school. Unfortunately, there are some teens today that do not fully develop these two tasks before deciding to leave home. These teens are the teens that we see out on American streets today. Leaving home at an early age can be devastating to the teenager, the cities they live in, and our society, in general. Teens are often victimized and exploited fairly easily while they are out on their own. Due to this, crime rates skyrocket in cities with a large homeless teenage population. Teens often turn to drug trafficking, prostitution, and other forms of criminal activity in order to survive. In turn, this also causes a wide range of physical and mental health problems, including substance abuse. Although there are large numbers of homeless teens, they still remain lacking in many services. One of the most important services is education. This journal article focuses on the barriers to educating homeless teens and mechanisms that are being created to assist in helping them to survive. Education is severely affected by homelessness. Most homeless adolescents do not attend school because they are unable to make it to school every day. This, in turn, causes teens to fall behind or fail classes. This causes them to end up dropping out of school. Schools are unable to help the homeless teen. Instead, they cause the teen more frustration and depression, thus encouraging them to stay away from education. Without the basic skills that one earns during high school, the teen is unable to gain legal employment. This not only affects their current situation, but it also affects their future as well. Although some states have set up programs to assist Homeless Youth Essay in gaining an education, the teen population still remains virtually ignored. In this journal article, the definition of homeless adolescents is unaccompanied youth who live independently of their families. When referring to the governmental definition, there is a difference between the homeless youth and the runaway youth. The runaway youth is defined as a person who is under the age of 18 and has been away from his or her home or legal residence at least overnight, without the permission of a parent or guardian. The runaway has chosen to leave home and has a home in which he or she can return (395). The homeless youth is defined as an individual who has no shelter and needs services providing supervision and care. It is important to understand definitional issues when estimating the scope of the problem of youth homelessness. It is very difficult to obtain an accurate account of homeless youth. The US Department of Justice found that at least 500,000 youth under age 18 become runaways and throwaways each year. Other studies have found that there are 2 to 3 million youth between the ages of 10 to 17 years are living on the streets, in abandoned buildings, or in welfare hotels. This means that there is anywhere from 1/2 million to 3 million uneducated, homeless youth on American streets today. Due to lack of education, homeless teens are being exploited by adults. This means that the youth is likely to become involved in criminal activity. The length of time a young person has been on the streets should be considered in determining their educational needs. Increased time on the streets makes it harder to reach kids and serve them.
